“My attitude towards drawing is not necessarily about drawing. It’s about making the best kind of image I can make it’s about talking as clearly as I can.”
Jim Dine
I love this quote by Jim Dine and I loved his drawings when I was at art school in the nineties. I find that quite often my drawings are repetitive but I hope they are not derivative but repetition like mantra or intellectual reiteration.
The following short video is a small segment of my recent eight sketchbook secret project that I am sending out via post with a beach DVD video.
“In the studio, I don’t do a lot of work that requires repetitive activity. I spend a lot of time looking and thinking and then try to find the most efficient way to get what I want, whether it’s making a drawing or a sculpture, or casting plaster or whatever. “
Bruce Nauman
When I was at art school, I also liked Bruce Nauman a American conceptual artist and his drawings and other art forms are very conceptual.
In conclusion I shall send out the sketchbooks and DVDs shortly hopefully by Xmas and I have lost track of how long the project took me but perhaps two months.
