Yannick set up an IKEA trestle table for me about a week ago out the back. I brought it up to my apartment living room and have been playing each day making improvised installations and this video documentation of photographic stills and a video and a selfie are some of the ideas I came up with. The cardboard boxes were shown in a recent show and had neon’s in them and each box has two white crayon drawings on black of the late Pope Francis, Mary Mackillop and Saint Francis of Assisi.
This is my favourite Saint Francis quote:
“Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”
Perhaps it’s sometimes better with art to have an element of randomness and playfulness rather than over thinking things.
One of the neon’s intuitive thinking is in white. The following quote is about intuitive thinking:
“The two operations of our understanding, intuition and deduction, on which alone we have said we must rely in the acquisition of knowledge.”
Rene Descartes
In conclusion I feel my favourite sort of art that I make is when I play with text and drawing portraits and it’s the over lapping connections that sometimes match and sometimes don’t that is most interesting.
