I have loved Bjork’s music since the early nineties when she did the MTV live Unplugged gig in 1994 and I recorded it on VHS tape and watched it over and over. When I just did some research on Bjork quote’s I realised that she is one of the most quotable creatives throughout history.
Bjork came to Australia for a gig but she only did a show in Perth a few years back and my favourite artist was also exhibiting a solo show at the same time in Perth: Yoshitomo Nara. However, it was too far and expensive to go and I don’t do well in crowds to see her live.

“Björk hasn’t publicly labelled herself as queer but is widely considered an LGBTQ+ icon and ally, celebrated for her fluid artistic expression, challenging norms, and deep connections with queer communities, though her personal sexuality isn’t explicitly defined in public discourse.”

“Björk Guðmundsdóttir OTF (/bjɜːrk/ BYURK, Icelandic: born 21 November 1965), known mononymously as Björk, is an Icelandic singer, songwriter, composer, record producer, and actress. Noted for her distinct voice, three-octave vocal range, and eccentric public persona, she has developed an eclectic musical style over a career spanning five decades, drawing on electronica, pop, dance, trip hop, jazz, and avant-garde music. She is one of the most influential pioneers in electronic and experimental music.”

“I don’t expect people to get me. That would be quite arrogant. I think there are a lot of people out there in the world that nobody gets.”
Bjork
I can understand this quote by Bjork as at many times in my life I have felt misunderstood due to my eccentric creative personality.

“Singing is like a celebration of oxygen.”
Bjork
This quote by Bjork speaks to me as drawing for me is like a celebration of oxygen so in other words my drawings are like oxygen and is not a luxury but a necessity for me to live.

“In Reykjavik, Iceland, where I was born, you are in the middle of nature surrounded by mountains and ocean. But you are still in a capital in Europe. So, I have never understood why I have to choose between nature or urban.”
Bjork
This quote about Bjork’s home town in Reykjavik, Iceland speaks to me as I love the nature of the beaches and ocean here where I live but also love going grocery shopping and going to cafes in town. I think the people from Iceland are very kind from my research.

“Most people in Iceland are blonde and blue-eyed. I was nicknamed ‘China girl’ in school ‘cos they thought I looked Asian.”
Bjork
This quote is interesting as last year I sent Bjork a big box of drawings on brown paper and in one of them was a portrait of Bjork and I had the text: I wish I had beautiful eyes like Bjork. However, I am not jealous but happy for her.

“Nature hasn’t gone anywhere. It is all around us, all the planets, galaxies and so on. We are nothing in comparison.”
Bjork
This quote from Bjork speaks to me about how minuscule humans are compared to nature which is all around us and the planets and galaxies in comparison too.

“I’m not interested in politics. I lose interest the microsecond it ceases to be emotional, when something becomes a political movement. What I’m interested in is emotions.”
Bjork
This is my favourite Bjork quote as I to lose interest in anything the microsecond it becomes political and only interested in things that are creative or about expressing emotions.

“Björk is best known in cinema for her critically acclaimed, award-winning lead role in Lars von Trier’s 2000 musical drama Dancer in the Dark, for which she won Best Actress at Cannes and created the soundtrack Selmasongs. Recently, she starred in The Northman (2022) and is featured in the 2025 concert film Björk: Cornucopia, which captures her elaborate 2023 Lisbon performance. “

I have never seen this movie: Dancer in the Dark and it’s on my bucket list to see it.
In conclusion in my books Bjork is the most innovative and spiritual musician since her time in the Sugar Cubes as lead singer and her music and way she dresses is always changing. It’s her music video clips that I find most creative where her music meets video. Like me she has no interest in politics and is only interested in art and music and when there is emotion in them.
