Thinking Outside the Box

Video by Luke Foster and shot by Yannick Soyez

“Lateral thinking… is the process of using information to bring about creativity and insight restructuring. Lateral thinking can be learned, practised and used.”

Edward De Bono

I love this quote by Edward De Bono and it rings true after my beach shoot with Yannick yesterday as at first two clay face sculptures were in a cardboard box on the beach and then I held each of them in the next two shots and the final two shots the faces were on the shore line being washed over by waves. The surf was rough and the water was brown and foamy after several days of rain. Leading up to and during the beach shoot I was feeling quite anxious and a lot of strong emotions came up in relation to my issues. This is highlighted in the video when the faces are washed over by waves. However, after the faces were washed over my anxiety subsided over the following few hours and then I felt incredibly calm and relaxed.

I made these two, clay faces as portraits of me and Yannick and it was about how my many beach performances have healed both of us him behind the camera and me in front.

“Do all you can to assist and love one another.”

Mary MacKillop

I think this quote by Mary MacKillop Australia’s saint explains the nature of me and Yannick’s platonic relationship and we do everything to assist and love one another. We always act like each other’s mum as I always joke around.

In conclusion I was originally going to just show the last two shots of the clay faces being washed over by wave’s but I am glad that I added the other shots.
