Big Ci Studio Residency June 2026

“Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”

 Francis of Assisi

While I was doing my 6th or 7th studio residency at the Big Ci, I was thinking about this Saint Francis quote. I can relate to it, but I still feel I am just doing what is necessary. One day I hope to be doing the impossible.

While at the Big Ci, I was also thinking about this Mary MacKillop quote.

“Let no obstacle deter you from proceeding with courage.”

Mary MacKillop

I feel I need much more courage to always be patient and kind and when i think of Mary MacKillop and draw her daily it gives me great courage that I can achieve this.

My installation or open studio at the Big Ci revolved around the idea of the Numinous that I found by reading the following book in the past few months.

The definition of numinous is: “Numinous refers to something that has a strong spiritual or religious quality, often inspiring a mixture of awe, wonder, and a sense of mysterious, divine presence. It describes experiences or spaces that evoke a feeling of being in the presence of something vastly greater than oneself. “

The book was written by Korean author Jungu Yoon — and the book’s title is Spirituality in Contemporary Art.

I shall leave this blurb short and sweet and allow the photo and video documentation to speak for itself.
