My Apartment

“A mother is the truest friend we have.”

Washington Irving

My favourite things in my apartment are the photo of my mum framed medium size in my bedroom and the multicoloured throw over rug that she had over her most days of the last year of her life in a nursing home in Sydney.

Yesterday my friend Yannick was visiting and I told him I wish my mum was here today to have coffee and chat and to show her my tiny renovated apartment with new air con, new Ikea kitchen, coffee machine, lounge and desk set up with two monitors. Also me and Yannick painted the interior white about eight months ago but to be honest I can’t remember when exactly.

Then after that we went grocery shopping and I was sniffling a lot, almost on the verge of crying. I wish I would have a good cry though and let the sadness go as I haven’t had a cry since mum died about three years ago.

My apartment is also filled with art, mainly my big framed AO photos but also smaller works by Australian artists I have swapped with and one Korean artist drawing but I do have more of Hansol Lim’s work but I can’t fit it all in my apartment.

There is also a photo of my favourite saint Mary MacKillop and a small reproduction artwork of my favourite male saint Francis.

“Find happiness in making others happy.”

Mary MacKillop

I love this quote by Mary MacKillop and I think I shall get more happy generally in my life if I make more of an effort to make others happy.

“A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows.”

Francis of Assisi

I love this Saint Francis quote and my great grandmother friend Gwenda who is 83 is like that for me and a single one of her sunbeams is enough to drive away many of my shadows.

My apartment also has several neons, one blue with the word compassion, one yellow one with the word forever and one white one above my bed with the word peace.

There are also two TVs, one big one small, a Bluetooth record player and extensive cd and record collection, lots of art books and my tools, around forty of my art sketchbooks, my fridge that I just cleaned and four plaster sculptures with doorways and a washer and dryer. Also a double bed and shoe rack under my work desk with lots of sneakers.

It also has a small bathroom but the lino floor I want to eventually replace with white tiles and the living room/ kitchen and bedroom has wooden floor boards and in both those rooms a window in each looking over a park with trees behind it.

In conclusion I love going out mornings weekdays early to exercise and socialise but I love coming home to my own apartment afterwards to mainly draw or sometimes make other art and sometimes write and always make my own meals and once my art is finished snuggle up in bed watching Netflix .Sometimes I watch as many as four movies in one day but usually two or three. I love watching movies not just for entertainment but also to get inspiration for my usually short single shot videos either made at the beach with the ocean behind me or in the doorway of my apartment. Yannick Soyez always expertly shoots my performance videos and photos. Yesterday I did a photoshoot in my apartment wearing white converse, blue Levi’s, a mustard colour hat , bandana and hand drawn white T Shirt from Kmart with Mary MacKillop holding an amazement neon. It was hand drawn with a black sharpie pen. I love drawing MacKillop like this as I feel it’s how she would be if she was alive today.
