Things Left Behind by Longing

An Exhibition in Daejeon South Korea with Hansol Lim and Luke Foster

Green Gallery October 1-13, 2026
11:00-18:00

“Three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, have governed my life: the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind.”

 Bertrand Russell

I think this quote is fitting with the theme and title of the exhibition at Green Gallery: Things Left Behind by Longing, chosen by Hansol Lim and it is a collection of new work and also our art correspondence over the past ten years since our first show together at Holly Gallery as we sent each other letters and artworks. The Holly Gallery is closed now but was run by friend:artist and musician James Holly.

During this first show together Hansols friend Annie came from Korea for company and to help her set up. I was so happy as Annie came to our current show and bought a zine and I custom made her a hand drawn t-shirt that fit her.

For the show Hansol had a wooden table made with a lot of art and letters I sent her on it, and she also had wooden clothes rack made to hang the hand drawn t-shirts and printed t-shirts I sent her.

She also had quite a few small watercolours with portraits of people mainly exercising and their faces were mainly left blank as if the differences between people defined by their faces were muted to see the common thread between all people highlighting our common humanity not our differences.

I showed two big A0 photos in this show of me holding neons and above these were two actual neons, one saying patience in white and the other kind affirmations of positive thinking. I also had a lot ofwatercolour and black ink on cut up grocery bags and a video on a screen of recent performance art from 2025-2026. There was also a table with three A4 sketchbooks of drawings and text from my ten drawings a day project and zines titled Numinous.

“Find happiness in making others happy.”

Mary MacKillop

I think this quote by Mary MacKillop summarizes what it was like collaborating with Hansol and her husband Wooseok, who also helped organize and set up the show. As they made me happy a lot. I also met one of Hansol’s professors: Kang Hyun Wook and he gave me a book about his conceptual art in many different media, and he is very kind and talented.

In conclusion I look forward to collaborating with Hansol next year in Australia but she can’t come out as she has two young girls and I have organized to come back to Daejeon in 2028 for a solo show at Temi space a beautiful gallery inside a traditional Korean building run by gallery owner Kathy and Hansol is having an amazing solo show there currently called Throw it Toward the Sun. Me and Hansol are also going to make a collaborative art book about our art.
