A Solo Show by Artist Hansol Lim in Daejeon South Korea in October 2026
At Temi Space
“Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I love this quote and it captures the philosophy of Hansol’s art. Her works in Throw towards the sun literally show figures diving into water and also in nature drinking in the wild air and doing other exercises.
This video and photos are documentation of Hansol Lim’s current solo show in Daejeon South Korea, and I loved the watercolours, bigger paintings and especially the animation. Me and Hansol are also holding a show together at Green Gallery in Daejeon titled Things Left Behind by Longing and I am amazed how she uses colour and movement in her art. In her works sports people are captured mid motion in bright colours and all their faces are left blank. Perhaps it captures what humanity is like that we all exercise, all love nature and our different faces aren’t important.Humanity is one.
“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.”
Helen Keller
As the initial quote was by a male I thought I should balance this short essay with the sage wisdom of a woman. I feel that if you face the sunshine then you cannot see shadows literally and metaphorically.
In conclusion, I love Hansol’s work and she is so mellow and kind, so she is great to collaborate with, and I aim to return to Korea in 2028 for a show with Hansol again and solo show myself at Temi Space. Temi space is one of the nicest small galleries I have seen and is housed in a traditional Korean building with wooden ceiling structures showing in the interior. Thanks to Kathy who runs the gallery, I met her today while visiting Hansol’s show.
