Compassion Sketch Book

Grief can be the garden of compassion. If you keep your heart open through everything, your pain can become your greatest ally in your life’s search for love and wisdom.”

Rumi

I love this quote by Rumi about grief transforming into one’s deepest compassion. I also feel the deeper the wound the deeper the compassion that follows.

The sketchbook that is the centre of this video, photo shoot is all about compassion and largely drawings of the great saints Mary MacKillop and Saint Francis and what they would look like if they were alive today. I haven’t finished it yet. Towards the end I made a list of 25 things I want to achieve in my life in the short term and the long term. Hopefully I can tick them all off.

“Be a gift of love and compassion for one another”.

Mary Mackillop

I love this quote by MacKillop about how people should share a gift of love and compassion for each other.

In conclusion I think the more I draw the more I shall heal from my deep wounds and in the last three months I have filled ten more sketchbooks like this for my next solo exhibit at Kirra Hill. I think drawings with text are the best source of healing for me.
