“Smell the roses. Smell the coffee. Whatever it is that makes you happy.”
Rita Moreno

I have interests in different things but my main interest is just in art and music.
When I say art, I also include not just visual art but movies and books too.
When I talk about literal and metaphorical coffee, I mean I usually have one strong coffee a day and quite a few decafs.
However, it’s metaphorical coffee I enjoy most and that is my metaphor for good advice particularly from those older than me who have sage wisdom.

I don’t just gain wisdom from those I meet but also from passed saints and mainly via quotes by Saint Francis and Mary MacKillop.

“Never see a need without doing something about it,” “Have courage no matter what your crosses are,”
I like these quotes by Mary MacKillop and I feel I need to learn how to respond when I see a need.
The following is a Saint Francis quote that speaks to me:
“Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”
I like this quote by Francis, as I think it is the most inspirational quote I have ever heard or read.

“Art is the highest form of hope.”
Gerhard Richter
I saw a Richter retrospective at GOMA gallery in Queensland several years ago and it was amazing. He has two different styles one super realistic and one abstract and it’s the realistic ones I love most.

“Where words fail, music speaks.”
Hans Christian Andersen
I love this quote and I feel music speaks to me when I listen to it daily.
“Hans Christian Andersen was a Danish author. Although a prolific writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems, he is best remembered for his literary fairy tales. Andersen’s fairy tales, consisting of 156 stories across nine volumes, have been translated into more than 125 languages.”

“It is books that are the key to the wide world.”
Jane Hamilton
These days I don’t read books and it’s been a few years since I read a novel but I have a whole pile to read on my bookshelf. However over the years I have ready many books.
My favourite novelist is Haruki Murakami who is Japanese.

“You have to dream intentionally. Most people dream a dream when they are asleep. But to be a writer, you have to dream while you are awake, intentionally.”
Haruki Murakami
I agree that to write one needs to have a lucid imagination while one is awake.
“Every viewer is going to get a different thing. That’s the thing about painting, photography, cinema.”
David Lynch
I like this quote by the late David Lynch and I feel every viewer of creative content comes away with a different perspective.

In conclusion I am too sensitive to get in any kind of political commentary but I do have a deep interest in all aspects of art and music and the medium of movies or cinema. I have a particular interest in art and music and movies that crosses over into anything profound or spiritual.
