Taking stock / A lot has happened over the past four years / Trying to become my own grandmother

Over the past four years a lot has happened and I need to slow down a lot to take stock so I can process everything and feel more grounded.

Mum died two and a half years ago while I was at the airport in Rome on the way to Athens and I’ve bought my own apartment by the beach and I was beach walking two hours every morning but I hurt my foot by overdoing it so now I swim laps at the pool and this morning I swam 28 laps and by the end of next week hope to swim 40 laps which shall be over 2 hours in the pool as I’m very slow and grandmothers literally lap me. I find swimming laps the most, gentle exercise and it relaxes my mind too.

I’ve had three international trips: two to New York and one to Europe. In New York the last time I was there I did a studio residency and exhibited an art video in their salon. It was great to see all the art museums a Broadway musical and basketball game between the Knicks and Indiana Pacers.

I’ve had around 10 solo shows and quite a few international group shows which I didn’t attend and all of those I just sent digital files.

But the biggest break through is growing up and becoming my own mum and one day my own grandmother.

With my art I’ve been doing ten drawings a day project each morning after my morning exercise. However now it’s more like 20 drawings a day project some days as many as 30.

I’ve written more than 200 essays and posted them on my website. However, I have steered away from any kind of political commentary as I’m too sensitive to get involved in politics and only like art and music and a quest for spirituality

I’ve sent around 60 boxes of art mainly drawings and video and instructions on how to build an installation to museums artists and Ceo’s and others. I’ve given around 4 thousand drawings but I’ve lost count of the exact number. I’m glad I gave all those away as I wouldn’t be able to get into my tiny one-bedroom apartment as it would be filled with boxes of art.

I’ve begun renovating my apartment and already have a new air conditioner and bought an IKEA kitchen last night and have the Fisher and Paykel dishwasher and going to Harvey Norman soon to get the oven, gas top, sink and tap and water purifier.

I’ve bought the white paint and rollers and cordless sander and filler to paint the interior of my apartment from Bunnings and my friend Yannick is going to help me with that.

I’m hoping to make the time to slow down a lot more to take stock and read the pile of interesting books to read particularly the two new Haruki Murakami books that I haven’t purchased yet as he is my favourite author and I have read most of what he has written and I truly hope he wins the Nobel prize for literature one day.
