Am I Going in Circles?

Exhibition at Murwillumbah Library: March-April

“To confer the gift of drawing, we must create an eye that sees, a hand that obeys, a soul that feels; and in this task, the whole life must cooperate. In this sense, life itself is the only preparation for drawing. Once we have lived, the inner spark of vision does the rest.”

Maria Montessori

This exhibition of framed works and a video was made in the past 8 months. Some on yellow envelopes that I made in Miami Queensland at my friend James place over Christmas. Some brown paper bag drawings I made at Mothership in Brooklyn New York last month during a studio residency there and some I made while living in a studio apartment at Cabarita.

The drawings are pretty self-explanatory as they have mainly portraits with text and the text is usually a direct translation of what’s going on in my mind while drawing.

The video is called Who Wants to be my Han Solo? and features me on the beach dressed as Chewbacca from Star Wars and the song fidelity by Regina Spektor and is about the bringing together of American and Russian culture.

Thanks to Yannick who shot and edited the video with me and helped me set up and transport the show.
