It’s a Stairwell and a Bridge/ “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” Martin Luther King

I wanted to do a video/ photo shoot today at the beach but Yannick suggested that we wait until later so we can do the shoot in the afternoon so my face isn’t in the shadow. The shoot is to go in my next solo show at Kirra Hill titled: “Sometimes I am a Scaredy-Cat but when I think I am the Dalai Lamas cat I feel safe and happy.” I bought a small video projector online recently to use to project the footage and the actual stairwell/ bridge sculpture has already been made. The actual sculpture shall also be in the show on a trestle table.

I mainly made the sculpture sitting at my computer desk in my living room so I didn’t have to hunch over on the floor and aggravate my sore back.

The sculpture was partly inspired by the early pigment simple structure sculptures by English Indian born artist Anish Kapoor. It was also inspired by the big bees-wax stairway sculptures by German artist Wolfgang Laib.

“In order to carry a positive action, we must develop here a positive vision.”

 Dalai Lama

I love this quote by the Dalai Lama and it reinforces in my mind the quote in the title that one must have faith even if one can’t see the whole staircase.

However, in my mind my sculpture although in reality is a staircase and bridge with two sides I think in the local and global community there are hundreds of bridges interweaving and overlapping and it’s is by strengthening these bridges that we can open dialogue to face humanities biggest problems, saving the environment, world peace and saving this beautiful blue planet forever.

Be eager in your desires but humbly patient in their accomplishment.”

Saint Mary Mackillop

I have used this quote by amazing Australian saint the late Mary MacKillop but I feel its very relevant to many situations. As I always say it’s important to have a balance of female and male role models and to choose one’s role models carefully as that is how one becomes.

In conclusion I shall update this post later with video footage and photos shot by Yannick and when I write and think about this coming work, I feel like the Dalai Lamas loved cat not a scaredy-cat.

My new journal I bought at Woolworths today which I haven’t begun yet just the cover.

At the beach and I love beach walking.
