My apartment is a never ending performance ground inspired by Katthy Cavalieres bedroom in a cardboard box performance at Artspace : Past Times Bedroom Series.
Included are photos of my apartment when it was minimal and new shots of the jam-packed apartment with lots of art in the photos.
It is a performance where how I interact with everything in the apartment and everyone who I interact with in my apartment such as the cleaners and giving them some drawings on the back of groceries bags which I sometimes get delivered to my apartment and give the delivery drivers drawings too if they want them.
Also a performance that includes many props such as making sculptures for exhibitions, setting up video projections and sleeping and eating.
I am taking a year off exhibitions after four years of intense creative activity writing essays residencies and national and international travel once a year and many solo and group exhibitions.
While taking time off I am getting my apartment renovated literally and metaphorically. But I shall continue my ten drawings a day project which is more like fifteen to twenty drawings a day these days.
I’ve got in a new air con and bought ten litres of white paint, rollers on sticks, drop sheets, trays, brushes and a sander I’ve got to pick up.
The next step before painting is getting Oz to renovate my kitchen and install a draw dishwasher as I live alone and last, I need the rotten joists fixed in the bathroom floor and white tiles to go in after the floor is waterproofed.
The most fun I’ve had in the last few days is watching cool interesting art house films on the net on my computer and checking the two video projectors and DVD players work that go in my next solo show that Yannick is helping me set up on Monday morning at Kirra Hill Community Centre. I am also making a box of drawings today for the City of Gold Coast Council who finance and run the gallery of my next show and in the letter to the director I asked to give some to the council blue collar workers particularly the cleaners and photos on a USB stick of photos to get blown up big A0 size.
Anyway, it’s quite late on Saturday night so I’m going to unwind and watch this last movie so I can get to sleep by midnight.
