Cross Room 1995
Particle Gallery Sydney
Materials: plywood, plaster board and calico plus pillow stuffing
The Cross Room is a sculpture of a model room in the shape of a crucifix and expresses the idea that the crucifix is not just a symbol but a place in which people reside and live by. Also on top are two wooden tables balancing precariously. The tables represent a place where people come together to discuss, eat or resolve issues.
The whole sculpture is resting on a white calico pillow as if something is being put to rest or surrendered. The work is influenced by the installations of architectural spaces of the American artist Bruce Nauman.
