An Artist Book For Patch Adams

An Artist Book for Patch Adams by Luke Foster

“The role of a clown and a physician are the same – it’s to elevate the possible and to relieve suffering.”

Patch Adams

This is my second artist’s book that I shall have sent Patch, and I can’t remember when I sent the first one, but it was around eight years ago.

I’ve never met Patch in person, but I did see him from afar at a new age festival about ten years ago at Byron Bay where he was giving talks and workshops.

I haven’t sent mail for a while, but I still think of him sometimes. I am very sad that he has lost one of his feet.

“Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone’s face? Did I say words of healing? Did I let go of my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits, here in this world and the life to come.”

Henri Nouwen

I loved Patches sage advice in his books and in his wonderful letters however I just disagree with a few things. I feel everyone needs to take the meds their doctor prescribes no matter what the illness is and I also feel that all doctors I’ve met here in Australia and abroad were incredibly smart, kind and funny.

In conclusion, I shall keep this text brief as everything I want to say is in the documentation of the book in both words and drawings, but I just hope my messy handwriting is legible.
