In May 2016 I went on a backpacking holiday in New York City. I stayed in Manhattan, Harlem and Brooklyn. I brought drawing paper and drew every day for the first week until I ran out of paper that I use to make books of drawings. I use high quality A4 watercolour drawing paper. I decided to use the drawings I made to make a DVD slide show of my art from New York and drawings I made on arriving home.
When I didn’t know what to draw then I drew self portraits, which was a lot of the time. The highlight of my holiday was seeing the Basquiats at the big art museums like the MOMA and Whitney.
The thing I notice about international travel is that it exposes you to the values of your own culture on arrival home.
