I am a Mixture of a Naughty Teenager and a Grandmother

Installation by Luke Foster

“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.”

 Dalai Lama

I love this quote by the Dalai Lama and it sums up the philosophy behind this installation. However, I also like how the Dalai Lama is always joking around and hence the title: I am a Mixture of a Naughty Teenager and a Grand Mother. This title is my attempt at humour.

The exhibition is sort of a mixed media installation with drawings, photographs, video and objects such as converse shoes and neon lights.

I also love the message behind Mary MacKillops philosophy who was an Australian saint.

“Be eager in your desires but humbly patient in their accomplishment.”

Mary MacKillops

There shall be gratitude zines for sale at $10 each and a box of drawings at $80 each.

My favourite parts of the installation are the video of me mimicking the Dalai Lama in Tibetan robes and the trestle table with ten white converse and ten black Converse in a pile and a white altruism neon on top of them.

I shall be wearing converse sneakers, a white Kmart t-shirt and black levis and my mustard hat for the walk around video where I explain the art shot by Yannick Soyez.

In conclusion this shall be my last solo exhibit of the year and perhaps I have been overdoing it and shall probably only have two solo shows next year. However, its beach walking, drawing, making other art, writing and being part of a kind local and global community that makes me happy.
