Need to be Grounded More in Compassion by Studying the Teachings of the 14th Dalai Lama

Essay by Luke Foster

“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.” “Only the development of compassion and understanding for others can bring us the tranquility and happiness we all seek.” “Compassion is the radicalism of our time.”

Dalai Lama

I love the Dalai Lamas take on compassion and I feel I am still not steadfast in compassion and have a lot to learn by studying his teachings and by drawing the trauma out of my system and mediating on nature while beach walking.

I feel the boughts of anxiety I suffer weekly shall lessen as I increase in my ability to feel compassion not just for all humans but for all animals and plants too.

“World peace must develop from inner peace. Peace is not just mere absence of violence. Peace, is, I think, the manifestation of human compassion.”

Dalai Lama

I love this quote by the Dalai Lama and I feel we all show our true colours not in large gestures but in the small actions we make and the way we treat each other in the process.

We need to accept that we won’t always make the right decisions, that we’ll screw up royally sometimes – understanding that failure is not the opposite of success, it’s part of success.”

As much as I adore the Dalai Lama, I also feel it’s necessary for me to learn from strong women so I have a balance of male and female inspiration.

I feel its necessary not to just talk about compassion I also feel its necessary to mediate on everyone in the world with compassion, altruism and forgiveness.

“I have learned that as long as I hold fast to my beliefs and values – and follow my own moral compass – then the only expectations I need to live up to are my own.”

 Michelle Obama

I love this quote by former first lady Michelle Obama and feel positive messages like this are contagious.

In conclusion I hope my book Mothers Loves sells so I can put out a second book of essays which I am thinking of calling: Am I Going in Circles? I feel compassion is contagious and when I ruminate on the teachings of the Dalai Lama and strong women then it helps me grow up and builds my wisdom. I already have enough new essays to fill a second book which shall be longer than my first one, fingers crossed.
