“I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.”
Leonardo da Vinci
I also use books of drawings to brainstorm complex problems. But mainly with how to navigate how to save the environment, make an equal share of wealth and food and access to medical supplies for everyone and also make world peace.
“Nature is the source of all true knowledge. She has her own logic, her own laws, she has no effect without cause nor invention without necessity.”
Leonardo da Vinci
I think I am similar to Da Vinci in the way I don’t deliberately try to overcome the worlds most complex problems but rather just look at suffering and injustice in the world and then the images and text come to me as %90 intuition as all intuition is when the logic side of the mind and the subconscious are in balance and they see all the different angles of the problem and listen to everyone else’s opinions and then way up the problem with gut instinct to come up with a solution. I guess this is sort of democratic thinking.
However maybe the only pressing problem in the world today is my enormous ego which needs deflating.
I feel I have been a bit of a hypocrite today as I forgot to include the ideas of important female intellectuals such as Mala Yousafzai and Michelle Obama.
Malala’s important book is on my bedside and on my bucket list to read called: I am Malala and is the life story of the Nobel Peace Prize Laurette at the age of seventeen.
I love the ideas and social work of former first lady Michelle Obama and her influential book: Becoming.
“Success isn’t about how much money you make; it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.”
Michelle Obama
In conclusion I have made over thirty artist books in my life and donated about half of them to museums and private collections and world leaders. I am not sad letting them go apart from a portfolio book of drawings and photos and it had a few drawings I did that I wish that I kept. However, I have kept most of my best stuff and that’s mainly the huge drawings I did over the years at the five Big Ci studio residencies and best ten or so artist books and lots of A4 drawings on different sorts of paper from my ten drawings a day project and over thirty large scale collages of small drawings on flattened cardboard boxes.
