Essay by Luke Foster
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. I felt fear more times than I can remember, but I hid it, a mask of boldness. The brave man is not to he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
His Holiness the Dalai Lama
I did around forty-five cathartic drawings today on yellow envelopes with colour Sharpie pens. I worked through years of abuse, extortion, humiliation, brutality and severe mind rape.
But I’ve started the long path of healing through cathartic drawing which means letting off steam through creative avenues. I also have compassionate carers through the NDIS which is a government scheme to provide care for people with a disability and also have fortnightly psychologist sessions with a great pyschologist and had to bump one forward until tomorrow as I’m suffering a lot with post traumatic anxiety. They do a lovely job looking after me and the Australian government picks up the bill.
I realise that I was to gentle with the bullies who taunted me for decades but eventually realised the best way to overcome them wasn’t to taunt them back but rather show them how much they had made me an innocent kind person suffer so much.
I am getting much better at writing because I am referring to an equal number of strong male and female role models.
“All I want is an education, and I am afraid of no one.”
Malala Yousafzai
If there is any four people, I wish I could meet in the world over vegetarian dinner at my place then it would be the Dalai Lama,
Malala Yousafzai, Pope Francis and Michelle Obama and work together to write an essay on how to make lasting and complete peace in the world through an equal energy and practical spread of men and women in society in jobs that are important but most importantly school and university teachers who need a pay rise particularly in America. As teachers literally train the next generation how to not just get a good job but also how to save ourselves from our self.
“Too often we participate in the globalization of indifference. May we strive instead to live global solidarity.”
Pope Francis
I love the Pope and feel he is a very devout strong catholic and loved it when he wrote back to me after I had sent him a letter asking for penance for my mistakes/sins and sent him boxes of gifts I think it’s a bit of a blur.
“Success isn’t about how much money you make; it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.”
Michelle Obama
I love this quote by Michelle Obama and I hope all four of you crowd around me today metaphorically and prop me up as I feel perhaps, I shall feel the trauma of everything I got out of my system today in my many drawings.
In conclusion I feel without an equal number of men and women in positions of power and influence then we shall keep falling into the same old traps of poverty, war, anger, suspicion, no forgiveness, racism and hatred of minorities.
